Weekend Getaway: Palm Springs

For those of you out there wondering, winter in Wisconsin is what you would expect plus 15 inches of snow, minus 20 degrees along with gale-force winds every now and then just to keep things interesting (read: soul crushing). SO, you could imagine the joy associated with a weekend getaway to Palm Springs, California in the last week of January. So, so much joy.

Christmas Highlights 2013

January flew by and now it seems super late to be posting about the holidays, but they were too special not to recap.

Thanksgiving Recap

2012 NYC Thanksgiving
For the past two years, Sam and I did Thanksgiving just the two of us in in NYC (when it was home). Contrary to what you might think, it was a wonderful time to be in the city and we developed a few little traditions: going on a long walk pre-meal, trying to peek at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade by hanging out of our 5th floor window (despite the parade route being less than 500 feet from our apartment, the best view was on TV) and cooking way too much sausage dressing. For our first Thanksgiving in Milwaukee, we continued with 2 out of the 3 traditions and doubled our party size with the addition of Roger and visit from my brother, Austin.

Milwaukee Sky

On top of tripling our square footage with the move to Milwaukee, we were also lucky enough to score floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Lake Michigan. It has been a lovely perk and we've enjoyed the ever-changing color and texture out the windows. Below are some of the best skies captured so far, although a few have snuck in that are not taken from the apartment. These photos have not been edited.

Day Trip : Lake Geneva

Last month Sam, Roger and I spent a crisp fall day at Lake Geneva. There is a walking path that circles the entire Lake, and we wanted to check it out before the warm days disappeared. The path runs as close to the shoreline as the terrain allows and offers beautiful views of both the lake and surrounding properties. I have to admit I enjoyed peeking at a few of the stunning old homes.

Our first walk was heading south from the town of Lake Geneva. We then drove over to Fontana-On-Lake Geneva for a delicious al fresco lunch at Chuck's, and did our second walk  from Williams Bay. Our goal is to return enough times to make it around the entire 21-mile trail (in aggregate!).
